It has been in the news recently that Johnny Manziel is under investigation by the NCAA for selling signed memorabilia on the side, but there may be more to the story that we don’t know about.
According to reports, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel received roughly $75,000 for selling signed helmets online.
For someone who doesn’t know much about college sports, I was curious as to why this is a problem. Professional athletes make buckets of money off of merchandise with their name on it.
Apparently, College athletes are not paid for bringing in a sh*t ton of money from ticket sales and they can not sell any sort of merch that is related to their name.
Why? Because the NCAA is slightly insane and they wish protect the amateurism and the ‘appeal of college sports’.
Other college athletes are under investigation for selling personal merchandise, but what do you guys think?
